Trikala Korinthias was built in the 10th century AD in a site where according to Pausanias was situated the Mysaion of ancient Pellini. Patron of the region was the goddess Demeter, protector of the forests and hunting. The Asclepion “Kyros”, one of the oldest and greatest sanctuaries-healing centers in ancient Greece, also operated there. It is no coincidence that our ancestors used to visit the area because of its healing climate. The settlement became particularly popular after the fall of the Byzantine Empire and participated in all the revolutionary movements against the Turks.

With an average altitude of approximately 1.000m., Trikala of Corinth consists of three settlements. Ano Trikala (Upper), Mesaia Trikala (Middle) and Kato Trikala (Lower). A blessed place, Trikala owe its good reputation to three characteristics: to the fresh and healthy mountain air, to the lack of humidity during the summer, to the rich and of high quality crystal waters of the various springs and finally to the fine wine produced from grape varieties of mountainous areas.

Starting from Kato Trikala the visitors can admire the impressive church of St. Demetrius, built on 1967, with the expressionist frescoes. In Mesaia Trikala they can visit the Monastery of Panagia, built around 1700 by the metropolitan of Corinth Gregorios Notaras. In Ano Trikala many stone-built mansions and churches of the 16th-18th century are preserved and are worth visiting, such as the Notarades Mansion and the famous Church of Agios Nikolaos with the remarkable frescoes from the 10th century.

Admire the picturesque landscape of Trikala through the paths that in the old times connected the villages between them since there were no roads. Follow these routes and discover the lush slopes, the traditional fountains and the old mansions of Trikala of Corinth. The short distance from Athens (145 km) and Xylokastro (25 km) in combination with the natural beauty of the region make it an easily accessible relaxing destination.
